Each time I close out a drawing and open a new one I receive a Fatal Error. I have had no updates installed recently or changes to any of my settings. Is there a quick way to analyze the problem? The only possible glitch is within manual performance tuning the FULL SHODOW DISPLAY can not be enabled. Could this be the problem and if so how do we enable it.

You can spend hours if not days trying to track down the problem on this one. Have you been sending in the error reports to Autodesk when it happens??
I'd highly recommend doing a Repair on your software. If that doesn't help, a CLEAN install might be the only answer. The clean install involves uninstalling MEP, then doing a search on clean uninstall of Autocad and that will take you to an Autodesk webpage that tells you what files you need to seek out and delete that are left over from the uninstall.
At worst, all that will take you two hours. Much better use of your time than even waiting for a once in a lifetime chance of finding someone that actually has the exact same problem and them responding to it on here.
I'd go with the repair first..
