Have you had any luck with this?
What did you end up doing?

It not possible to have an MEP connector as part of an array.

So how does this family work then?

As far as I can tell they have somehow managed to array connectors

Excellent question. I am not sure how they were able to get the connector in a model group but when changing types Revit displays errors (see attached image).

Also, if you attempt to create a group with a connector selected Revit removes the connector from the selection (see attached image).

Huh.... I didn't have any issues with it (using 2009).

Figured it out, thanks mattw for giving me the idea. He is correct, you can group connectors within MEP2009, which then propogates to the upgraded 2010 and 2011 versions.

So, create a model group with a connector inside a 2009 family, then upgrade that family to whatever version of Revit you need it in.

So this ONLY works if the family is created originally with MEP 2009?

I have created it in RMEP2011.

You need to create an array of reference lines with the connectors located on the face at the end of each reference line. Then as the reference lines move so do the connectors. This can also be used to control the number of connectors for example for a plenum by making the number of items in the array an instance parameter.

This raises two questions:

1. If the number of the array is increased, is an additional connector added to the family?

2. If so, are the properties of the connector mapped to properties of the family? (for example, is the Flow parameter of the connector mapped to the appropriate Flow parameter of the family)?

No, to both (because it is no to the first). You have to build the family with the connectors hosted to the max number of connectors you will need. I am having problem with a complex array. (basically an array of arrays) I am trying to make a grid of connectors but can't get them to behave as desired. I end up over constraining the family or connections that look like they have been scattered across the surface with no particular pattern in mind.

If you need a different number of connectors for a certain family, save as and create another family.
