Copies of Custom files

I want to make copies of any custom files, that go along to complement my dwg templates. If all goes wrong I want to drop the lates copy of these backed up files onto the server and be ready to go again.

I eventually am hoping to make a directory on a server that we can all use for common files and custom files. At the moment its all a bit fuzzy as to which files I need and where to find them, also the setting of paths and their priority in the file path list is a bit vague.

I intend this in order that we all use the same files and that they can be updated simultaneously, although I must confess its a tad confusing, therefore I'm looking for some guidance, so is there any documentation on this aspect, or does anyone have any links, or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

Great idea! Using the same information is the best to keep the company on the same track.

As to a guide…”User’s Guide”? Do you use Vault, see page 170?

Some of the items you should think about putting on the server are the libraries, templates, and any databases. On each computer you will have to change the path directory. When you install the software, there is a place to change this information. My IT guy and I worked on this when we went to networking licenses. This way when a symbol needs to be updated, only one place needs to be changed. Also it is great for the database with all the manufacture catalog numbers. Company templates should also be on the server, and all the project databases.

It has been awhile since I have had to think in this direction. I will try and put something together for you.

Yes, we are using vault, but only for projects at the moment.

The libraries and templates seem to be working fine so far, however the databases aren't so easy to get working.

I have copied the default DB, and prefixed it with our company initials, and want all users to add/remove items to build our own company specific DB, however I can't get it to load on default. I need it to load rather than the old default one.

I have tried modifying the wd.env, and the project file, but it doesn't seem to work, as everytime I go to lookup a component, the active directory is the old default one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please review the following pdf. I created this in ACADE 2008 yet the concept is the same. The main thing to change is the path to your new database. You would need to change all the paths under Project Settings tab; Schematic Libraries, Schematic Icon Menu File, Panel Footprint Libraries, & Panel Icon Menu File to your server locations. This information is stored in the <project name>.wdp, see jpg.
