I am trying to create a profile from a surface, after I sample the surface to my dtm, which i have checked, then create a full profile, the profile comes out with a strange vertical scale. I played with it and when i change my vertical scale to the negative numbers it starts getting better but its still not quite right, please help.

Ryan,

Prior to sampling the surface or creating the profile;
go to Project menu>>>and select Drawing Setup....
and check/set your desired horizontal and vertical scales.
Then return to model space and verify that you are working in
UCS=world and Plan view.
Then sample your surface and create your profile,
in the profile creation dialog do NOT change anything
that you see in there UNLESS the vertical scale shown is
different that what you just set in Drawing Setup dialog.
All should be well.
You might also want to look at your surface statistics and
verify your min/max surface elevations as they might be
part of the problem.
I am away from my home office this week doing Land Desktop
training in Virginia, otherwise I would ask that you contact me
directly to resolve if the above steps do not 'solve' the problem.
Otherwise I can not get to you during regular hours until Monday next.
