Can anybody please help - I would like to simulate the motion of a sprocket set and roller chain if possible. A pin is connected to a chain, driving a lever up and down, and I need to determine the exact path af the pin. The motion action is important, as other mechanisms in relation to the different positions of the pin must be experimented with. I could not find a tutorial on this subject on the net, and my training manual explains gear motion, but nothing on chains ?
Any pointers will be appreciated.
Thanks

You didn't state what version of Inventor you are using. Do you have Dynamic Simulation?

Unfortunately not. I believe it is straight forward on the simulator package. I use 2010 Suite. I have in the mean time discovered that I can constrain a roller to a path by means of the transitional constraint. As long as I have one roller following the path it is OK, as it seems that this operation draws a lot of resources prom the PC. The problem now is to lock the chain and sprockets in sync ?

The solution is not particularly easy with suite but it isn't a resource hog when done correctly. Attached is an example one of my students did.

Impressive, and it will solve my exact problem - but is there perhaps a tutorial on the method to get there ?

There are several tutorials that the student referrenced in creating the assembly. You might start at http://www.mcadforums.com
