Modify SHX Font

I know there is (or used to be) a way to modify an SHX font to add a symbol or two, but I can find nothing anywhere about how to do it. We're looking to add a couple to our "archquick" font & then distribute it with our drawings so our clients can see the symbols also.
Don't worry - we're only looking to add where there are unused codes already. Any monkeying around with common codes (i.e. %%C, %%D) would get me lynched by about a million people! Distributing a modified font would almost be the equivalent of an AutoCAD virus!
Any direction that I can be pointed in would be a great help.

Do you have the shp file for this font? i.e. do you have the rights to modify it? You may need you just create your own font for your special symbols. At any rate, the steps are to modify the shp file and then recompile to shx. Its all documented in the customization help files. Look for the COMPILE command and "Creating Shape Definition Files".
