We are establishing Revit standards in our office and are stuck editing the View Reference Family. We are trying to add the word 'see' in front of the callout.
Does anybody know how to do this?
Thanks!

I assume you are referring to a detail bubble for a callout. You can edit the Family for the View Reference and add a "SEE" text element. You will probably want to do a Save As... and give it a different name. Within the project, you need to edit the Settings for the Callout Tag to use the new/revised family. Welcome to augi.com!

I am refering to the View Reference Tag placed beside matchlines refering to debendent views. I tried to edit the view reference family by adding another type, when I place the view reference tag it continues to use the standard tag.
thanks for your help!

It's basically the same thing. Place a View Reference tag. Select it. Edit the Family, adding "SEE". Save As... Load it into the project. Select the View Reference tag. Edit the Type parameter and change the View Reference Tag value to the newly loaded family.

I kind of followed what you suggest. to follow best practice I saved the changed view reference tag under a different name (with our company name in front) now when you place the view reference tag it always goes back to the original. I also tried to add a type to the original family - that didn't work out either. Is there something special about the reference view tag that you know about?
Thank you!

The images below may do a better job of explaining the steps.
The first one shows a dependent view with a matchline and our standard view reference. Note: we put "MATCHLINE" at the beginning.
The second one shows the edited View Reference family where "MATCHLINE" has been replaced with "SEE". This is saved as a separate family and loaded into the project.
The third one shows the selection of the View Reference tag and editing the Type properties, and changing the value to the new "SEE" tag.
The forth one shows the end result.
The original View Reference family can now be purged from the project (or project template). By purging, the users will only have the new "SEE" view reference tag available in projects.

Steve, thank you very much for your help. I think my problem lies at the very begin. How did you create your custom standard view reference? did you make a new family or a new type?
Thank you!

In Revit 2010, the family file is found within the Imperial Library\Annotations folder. It's called View Reference.rfa
You could also create a new annotation family and change the Category to View Reference.
