When we project one or more feature lines (which have elevations assigned) to a section view, they do not show up. If you view the properties of the section view, the "projections" tab shows the feature lines, but again, they are nowhere to be found. We have tried feature lines directly on top of the sample lines and offset slightly.

C3D 2010 version 3, using a slightly modified version of the "_AutoCAD Civil 3D (Imperial) NCS.dwt" template - but no modifications to any of the section or section view styles.

What elevation option did you use when you projected them and did you have a label added? Perhaps they are at elevation 0 or right on the surface.

Brian, the elevation option was set to "Use Object", and as mentioned these feature lines have the correct "Z" at each vertex. Also, the section did not change (the grid did not go to elevation zero) when the projections were added - basically nothing happened.

Also, we tried on another machine, using a different drawing - same result.

You have to pick a marker style to govern how the feature line is displayed in the section view. Civil 3D places a marker at the intersection of the feature line and the sample line. Your feature line style Section tab lets you assign a marker style for how the feature line is displayed. In your attached image, you would have to edit the Basic Feature Line style to see what marker is assigned on the Section tab.

I know it's been a while, but thanks for your help. What I was expecting it to do, was not what the command is designed to do.
