View Full Version : Adding Handrails

In the attached dwg, I've had to create a multi-landing stair out of separate straight stair runs in order to get the landings correct to model an existing staircase. Now I have to add handrails. I've created 3 separate handrails from polylines, one for each stair. The problem is when I attach the rail, the returns stay at the same slope as the stair. Any suggestion on how to accomplish what I need. Is there another way to model the stairs so that they are one object which will accept the handrail?

I moved your handrail that you made off to the side. Right clicked on it, chose "add selected", then picked the stairs (once for each side) and it put the sloped rails in with the extensions.
I didn't put the rail around the landings. You could just add a rail and make it fit what you need.

Thanks. I'll have to look at it later. I got a new pc today and I'm still tweaking it.

If I just use Add Selected, it just adds a straight handrail that doesn't bend at the landing. That's why I was using a polyline to start with. Also, if I use a pline, I can radius the corners first then apply the handrail to linework. I made a mass element for the curb that goes down all 3 flights and created a handrail from the pline, but the first and last posts stay at the same level. All the intermediate posts follow the mass element's slope. Just not the last one. Arrgggghhh :banghead:
