Upgrading to a new machine shortly. Is there a seperate 64 bit Revit 2011 or is it all in one now? Couldn't find one in subscription.

As far as i know...it all in one. I downloaded from the subscription site...and it installed the 64bit version

Charlie,

its all in the same file now and is trouble free to install, and runs no different to 32 bit version although you are going to love the difference just the same - try and get a double quad if you can stump for it and probably at least an NVidia FX3800 (1Gb, CUDA enabled ) despite the sometimes variable reviews also a 12-Gb board for (or more) RAM
I am guessing that for Revit 2012 they might implement gpu rendering as well and have a hybrid system of cpu + gpu as that seems to make good sense to start with (forget the supposed latency between the card and the cpu / RAM etc as we'll probably never notice !!
And if they wait another year first, you can always use gpu CUDA on other things, even with a separate rendering engine although I would think you'll be good to go as is. Either way Revit 64 = good news.
cheers

Thanks for the reply folks. I'm getting a Dell Studio XPS 8100, I was able to do some haggling and got a good bit knocked off the price. It has an Intel Core i7 Processor 860 (2.80GHz, 8MB) and the graphics card is a Single 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTS 240. It comes with 6GB memory upgradable to 16GB. I'm not much up to speed with hardware details but hope this will see me through 2 or 3 updates. Just got a phone call from Dell saying it will be delivered Monday morning (Icelandic volcanoes permitting).

FWIW I don't see that card on the Revit approved hardware list - but it may work anyway

New machine up & running, so far so good. Not done any extensive testing, did some rendering and the graphic card appears to be working fine. Only snag my old Canon BJW3000 plotter wont work even with the XP mode, The only drivers I can get are for 32 bit machines not 64 bit.

Is the printer a usb or parallel printer port connection or networked?

There is no usb or parallel printer port support in Virtual XP as far as I know.

If you had a network card in the printer virtual XP could print to that I think once the drawings had been saved in pdf, say to a shared folder.

Or you could try one of the commercial software packages for a Virtual machine to run XP on (but you would need a valid XP disk and license) which does have usb emulation.

Or you can do what I did and just get a new printer.

I got an A1 Canon IPF605 and the speed it spits out full colour drawings and images is astonishing.

Episode 3 - Canon Strikes back!
A long time ago in a drawing office far far away.............
Charlie and his team from Enterprise, aided by the powerful AUGI continue to battle gallantly against the relentless dark forces of the Global Commercial Alliance led by Darth Microsoft and Darth Autodesk.
Forced to upgrade, he was still able to use his old Canon plotter. Then disaster!!! The old drivers were 32 bit (really meant for Autocad 12) and they wouldn't work on the new 64 bit machine.
The deadline was fast approaching - what would he do?
Victory!! His laptop was 32 bit - but would it work?
Loading on XP mode and the Canon drivers he printed off a test sheet - success!!
Hastly linking the new 64 bit machine to the laptiop he set up for a test print from Revit 2011 (64 bit) - then flash - bang - sparks like Dark Force lightning flew out of the back of the Canon and it went dead. As dead as a door nail. What now? Will he meet the deadline? Will the GCA win? Will the financial controller cough up some more money? Will Spielberg phone?

Don't forget to tune in to the next exciting chapter of Drawing Office Enterprise - The Next Generation.
