Civil 3D Spot Elevations

Is there a way to detach the spot elevations from a surface and keep the text and point marker?

The only way I now to do that is to explode them. Once you explode them they can never be attached to the surface again.

im just curious of why you would want to do that? the label is dynamic is it will always update when the surfaces changes. Were you trying to do something and could not get it to work?
