Ok...well - that being said, this works! Not room associative but not room aware. A lot faster than in-place masses. Very flexible. Appears lightweight. Here's the file and image.

All the best!

Cool. Would be better if the ceiling thickness would change with the walls, so you could get an accurate schedule of the room volume as well without having to manually change the thickness.

Nice trick.

Be useful if ceilings could wear a subcategory so that you could swicth off the funky graphics in other views while leaving a "real" ceiling in place.

You can put them on their own workset which is "off" by default in other views considering you'd need to see the graphic masses less frequently than the real ceilings.

Yeah yeah yeah, Dad. I know that, but I don't necessarily want every project to start off or even ever use worksets.

Nah,

This was one of the intended use cases of the Massing from the start. This is an example of 'inside-out' design vs 'outside-in'.

People traditionally think of Massing as building up the exterior form of the building, 'outside-in'

But, what if you have programatic requirements that you'd like to express as chunks of space and lay out next to adjacent spaces? Then you can do what Phil shows above (even before walls, roofs and floors. We call this 'inside-out' design. The new massing can help you do that sort of layout very quickly and also help you produce sexy drawings at the same time.

Phil,

Very impressive, I can think of several ways to use this. Thanks for the Tip!

Hello everyone.....
The tip is very nice but I just wanted to know why aren't the windows and doors visible in the section, is it because of the massing object?
Regards,
Aliya

It's because your masses are made of a solid material. Change the material to glass, and make each area a different color glass.
