Well, according to Eurocode, there is a lot of combination in the fundamental combination of ULS.
For example, if you have dead load + live load + 6 cases of wind load. You will have 36 possibilities of combination ... So, thanks to ULS you can choose a combination between the 36 and check the result. ULS+ and ULS- give you the maximum combination, I mean the combination where the results are maximal.

ULS or SLS cases are generated when 'Automatic code combinations' are used in a model.
Such a case is kind of multipy result case. It consist of a number of components, combination inside. Beside there are generated envelope cases, for example ULS+ and ULS- cases. Theses cases store envelope, it is maximum (+) and minimmum (-) values for all the combinations.

When you browse results in graphic display, for instance forces diagrams, ULS case shows results for each single component. You can navigate among components (combination) with Cases > Select case component dialog. If ULS+ or ULS- cases are active, in fact any of them, then envelope diagram is displayed for all combinations.

When you browse results in a table, for instance internal forces, ULS case shows results for all component. If ULS+ or ULS- cases are active, then maximum or minimum values from the combinations are listed in the table.

In case of design (steel or RC plates), it does not matter if you select ULS, ULS+ or ULS-. Design takes into account results of each single combination within the multiply case.

If you want to limit design to selected combinations within ULS you have to generate manual combination from genaretad automatically. It is an option in the automatic code combination functionality. It generates separate cases of manual combination, not the muliply case. Then you can select a list of combination for design. But that way you can loose a meaninful combination results and it is not faster.
