View Full Version : Revit Cloud Computing
Hi, great idea having this forum.
I should wear my colours stright away, I work for a reseller and I'm an experienced Revit trainer with a good few years of AEC industry experience in the UK.
Quite a lot of our customers are starting to ask about multi-office working with Revit. Up until now, because of wide area network latency issues, I don't think we have really had a good solution.
I understand there is an experiment underway with Revit and cloud computing?
If so, do we have any were we can go to check on the progress of this? How is it coming along? When can us Europeans give it a go? Do you think that this is the "solution" to the problem?
Many thanks!

As building information models get more complex, the files will be larger. There will come a time where it is more practical to keep the data in one place, on a secure server somewhere, and have everyone view and access it via the cloud.
The Project Twitch Application Trials on Autodesk Labs is a technology preview of a technology that has really low latency - even for 3D. Previous technologies were sufficient only for 2D. The snag in the Labs technology preview for you is that proximity to the data center is an issue. At some point the long distance outstrips even the speed of electrons. So I think a solution to this problem is for the technology preview to pan out well and then have multiple data centers around the globe to serve the needs of all of our customers.
Thank you for your reply Scott.
Project Twitch! Thats the name I was trying to think of!
Do we have a time frame yet for the setting up of the multiple worldwide data centers?
Is it anticipated that this is a service that Autodesk will provide (at a premium obviously), or do you anticipate that it will be the responsiblity of the individual organisations concerned?
Further, do you anticipate that there will be cloud management software released as a result of Project Twitch?
Many thanks for your time.

For the particular technology we are previewing as part of Project Twitch, proximity to the data center is key; however, there are other technologies that Autodesk Labs is also evaluating. At this point in the technology preview, there are many variables being considered, so nothing is definite.
