Some podcasts available here, so you can learn from leading experts in Construction Management, about their ideas and their experiences in the field.

Some of their published papers are also available here:

They have a bi-monthly magazine available here:

Here is a double spread article from the March/April 2010 edition, which might pull together a lot of issues quite neatly.

In the interests of including input from both sides of the Atlantic, here is a useful collection of documents here from the UK on the subject of public procurement proceedures.

Some AUGI readers might be familiar with the familiar with the RICS-UK format, elemental building classifications.
In the U.S. from what I can gather (doing a very brief level of research) is the UNIFORMAT II system is what applies for cost estimation.

The other reason it is important, is I notice design competitions here require the designer to submit an 'elemental cost plan' with their competition entry - which means, the elemental classification is built into the process, from design stage onwards. But I honestly don't know how BIM users from different countries around the world, are supposed to understand each other, given the various costing classifications in existence. I assume it is up to project leaders to create relevant templates or something.

I mean to investigate this area in further detail over the coming years - to explore what the options are, and how to develop this a little bit more - if only, to gain a fuller understanding of the state of the art.

I am reading an old paper from the AutoDesk University,
Cost Estimating: Optimizing Your Design Data in Architectural Desktop 2006
BD34-2
by Corey Layton - Chianis Anderson Architects.
(No, I don't have the link to this paper, but I know I obtained it from AUGI here, not so long ago)

It goes into some discussion about ASTM Standard E1557-97.
There are several other good references on the standard, we are available to download and so on.

This paper is really interesting too:

Uniformat II Elemental Classification for Building Specifications, Costing Estimating, and Cost Analysis
by Robert P. Charette and Harold E. Marshall
available from NIST, National Institute of Standards and Technology, the U.S. Dept of Commerce, Technology Administration.
