I am trying to render a model over a background image. I've set up a BG image in the background section of the render window, but it does not show in the 3dview window, which I would use to match the model position to the background image. Does anybody know if it is possible to preview the background image for positioning?
Thank you...

Thanks! I was able to set the image in teh window you show in the attachment...
But, is there a way to "rotoscope" or preview the image in the 3d view window for matching positioning, lighting, shadows etc?
Thanks again

There is no way to see the rendered background image in in the working display modes. But here is a work-around.

Make a sheet
Place you background image on the sheet.
Place your 3D view on the sheet over the image.
Activate the view, and adjust to match the perspective.

I probably didn't express myself correctly. I meant by background image a photograph of the site so I can match my model to the photo...

Thanks! I'll try the workaround

3dsMax has tools specifically for camera-angle matching of your scene to and existing photograph.

just another option.

Hi,
and modo has controls for background constraints, positions, scales, camera angles, lens types etc etc., and so on......actually, Vectorworks also has constraints and positioning for these background images as well !
Revit is so backward in these aspects of presentation it is just years behind most other apps like this.

Autodesk just wants us all to have to buy MAX.
