I am tryin to assign linear releases to a panel.
Is it possible to assign linear releases to a single panel supported on bar elements? I want the panel to be simply supported between the bars without inducing torsional forces with these bars.
Many Thanks
Scott

Yes this work in proper wat,
You can release bars if u want , and panel if u want

@length zero,
Thankyou for your response. But I'm afraid I don't understand. I don't know how to apply the releases to the panel. Can you give me any pointers?

Yes
At geometry meny - Additional attributes - linear release,
And yo can fix or free: ux, uy, uz, rx in local axis of panels
By deffault is added an release - pin which is released rotation about edge fo panel - RX
Hope it help

If you are talking for releases, you dont need to apply point supports.
You must define linear release.
I check your model but i dont know what are interested to check

I understood you. but it seems as though the screen supports. it was not any releases. but it seems support. and then during analysis automeshing shell this nodes assign itself support (base). its possible? or is this a bug??

I have done that, I remove linear supports, and again run model, And it works

Thankyou but I am still unable to assign the releases. I go through the procedure you outlined (which I have done previously also) but the panel still does not have releases assigned. When I am in 'Geometry ' and I select the panel in question, the linear releases section of the table is blank.
Any ideas?

Troy:
To much supports and mixed:
You had a mixed of “linear supports” and “nodal supports” on the walls at the ground level. When you have a wall you must to use “linear supports”.
You had supports at the first floor. I erased then.
Linear releases on panels:
In order to assign linear releases to panels from the main menu:
“Geometry>Additional attributes>Linear releases”
The pop-window comes up. At this point you can help your self with the Robot-help: search “Linear Releases” (in plural otherwise you don’t find it!)
I post your corrected model.
Scott: You can not define linear releases by using the panel table…despite you can se the column “Linear releases”
But the real problem is that maybe the linear releases on panels could not work at all. I work just now with precast walls (pinned at the slab connexions) and the model is not stable.
The fact is that a “pinned” slab for us engineers is a very common case, floors and walls. It seems that for Robot is an instability problem! In accordance with the Robot documentation the user has to manually insert an “extra” support in order to fix that instability situation.
Read the Help file (Help>Robot – Help contents at the main menu) the section:
Instabilities that may occur during calculation of a structure including linear releases
What can Autodesk say about this?
Please help us!

Try using the " multi-Threaded solver" . It killed an " instability type 3 " I was having here and it was a lot faster!

According to the help, linear releases only work between panels, not in the panel-bar connections (for example between floor slab and columns). I´m afraid that if you want your floors simply supported you have to use "rigid links".
I don't know if it works when the bar is in the same line of the panel border (as a ring beam).

Compatible nodes can be used as well, if I understood the problem correctly, which I doubt very much.

Hi Length, if you use the option Building Design, and specify Wall or Columns, the program automatically use a support.
