I'm trying to create a grand entry with steps similar to the lincoln memorial entrance (i.e. very wide steps). I tried drawing the boundary and riser lines in the sketch mode for stairs, but that didn't work. Is there a trick to doing this?

Yes, be very, very careful :D
Any shape of stairs is possible, but you have to be very careful what you call a Boundary and what you call a Riser, and in what order you draw things.
IME, if you have a complicated Boundary shape, it's worth sketching it out as a filled region or an Autocad import first, then tracing over each Boundary line, from bottom to top stair, as unbroken chains of lines. Drawing boundary lines out-of-order can sometimes trip things up.
I've attached an example, and also a complex curved stair I did for a previous thread.
Basically, the stair tool is very flexible and powerful, but also horribly buggy and weird. Experiment with different methods and orders of comands...

Thanks! Those images were exactly the type of inspiration/tutorial I was looking for. It was helpful to see where you put the riser lines(black) and the boundary lines(green) side by side with a resulting render.
