I have been looking for information on how to work with GIS data in an AutoCad 2011 environment. Does anyone have any knowledge about where to find this kind of information on the AutoDesk help? Are there any white papers on this topic? Is there a way to use the coordinates of the GIS data with AutoCad? I'm looking for broad general knowledge.

Thanks,
Karen

With vanilla AutoCAD (plain AutoCAD) about all you can use is the GEOGRAPHICLOCATION command to place a location in your dwg. There's no coordinate/datum system functions in vanilla AutoCAD. With AutoCAD MAP3D or Civil3D there are fuctions/tools for this.
You need to look at the AutoCAD MAP3D and/or Geospatical pages on Autodesk site. Also there are a few blogs on the applications that may give you some info. :)

What format of GIS data are you wanting to work with?
