Help!!! New to Civil 3D (2010) trying to figure out Surfaces and Surface styles. I must have something screwed up because when I turn my TIN Surface off, the Contours stay but the Contour Labels are gone! I cannot even click on the Contour label line because it will not display. Any ideas, I am going Nuts!

hmm interesting. I would look at your contour label style and see what lay it is assigned to and also go into the surface style properties and see what layers the contour and tin is assigned too. If they are the same then i;m pretty sure if you turn off the tin the labels will disappear. Sounds like the tin and contour label style is on the same layer. Hard to tell without the drawing to look at.

Agree with Tony C. If your Contour Label style object layer is set to the same layer as your TIN then turning off that layer will turn off your TIN. I would suggest, however, to not control the display of your TIN by Layer, but by Style. Create a surface display style for your contours and control the display in the settings display tab and turn off there (not by layer) the objects you do not want to display.
In my office we have several surface display styles for different contour styles (existing, proposed) and intervals so if you want to switch from Existing 1m-5m to Proposed 2m-10m then you just change the style.
Works very well.

I just came across this thread, and something that Matthew said has always bugged me. I know it's two years old, so I didn't think it was appropriate to bring it up on an old thread. I figured I would start a new thread with my question. http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?146529-Styles-versus-Layers&p=1216603#post1216603

I'm interested to know how you all really use styles and layers.
