I set up my drawing as a metric 1:500.
I create an alignment and then add the station labels.
When I check why the labels are so small the properties show the units in feet.
I don't know if this is a "cad issue" or not.
I have only started using land companion 2009 so I'm not sure what issues there are

Look in the options section under User Preferences. There's a section called insertion scale.
Both should probably be set to Unitless. In addition, it's possible that the block itself is designed as feet.

There is also a System Variable called INSUNITS, INSUNITSDEFSOURCE, INSUNITSDEFTARGET that could be set either to unitless or to Meters.

After some research all over the web I found the same answer as you posted (couple different web sites and some time). I knew that the block was in metres.
I would caution people that you check the settings for INSUNITS INSUNITSDEFSOURCE, INSUNITSDEFTARGET before you start using companion.
