Having recently completed some training for a company new to Revit I was appalled at the quality of the content available in the box. Whilst many have developed their own in house libraries with the push to use BIM the out of the box content needs a radical review.

First off make sure that you have installed Revit 2012 Service Pack 1 or you will be missing more than half the content including the family templates.

Here are a few issues I spotted:

Template files lacking annotation families,
Keynoting for NBS missing off most families.
A1 Metric Wide Pen set to 1
Car parking bay options only 6 or 12
Amount of US trees in template.
Lack of UK walls constructions - being looked at in other post.
Standard schedules and UK specific paramaters not included.
Uniclass Classifications not included.

Please add to the list and lets start sorting this out.

Thanks

Layer Standards.

The DWG export options show a BS1192 version. In fact this uses only the Discipline codes and Cisfb reference that was used in BS1192 (Part5 ) which was replaced years ago.

AutoCAD Architecture was updated some five years ago to at least use the BS1192 Part 5 AUGI versin as based upon the CPIC Production Information Guide. This and the later BS1192 (2007) using Uniclass should be incorporated.

I've heard Kiwi-Codes is pretty good at organizing content. As far as creating it or just having it OOTB, by now most firms have generated either generation 1 or generation 2 versions of what they need. I've worked at 4 firms and they are all different in terms of content, I feel your pain.

Cheers,
