View Full Version : License Problem Autocad 2000i
2005-01-19, 01:35 PM
I have a standalone installation of Autocad 2000i. I need to replace the hard drive on my PC. I want to export the license to my laptop.
I have installed Autocad on the laptop and obtained a MIC and have added the laptop and my desktop to the pool. When I go to the Portable License utility on my desktop, there is no license in the export tab. I have been using Autocad on the same machine since installation March 2001.
In the import tab the following is in the box marked 'Read Transfer file'
C:\PROGRAM FILES\ACADM 2000I\licence.ctl

If I recall the domestic (US) version of the portable license utility
does not allow the user to export a license.
Why not use the registration html document and install the program
using your original CD key, and the information on the registration
document. Or if this laptop installation is a bridge until you get
your workstation back, just install it in DEMO mode with no
authorization. And then reinstall on the primary machine.

Thanks for that.
Now I know its not me being stupid!
If I change the HDD on my desktop, will that cause a license problem, when I reinstall with the original Autodesk Authorisation Code.
I appreciate your help.

I tried to add to previous post through an edit operation
This feature was often mis-represented during the sales process
by many vendors, because they didn't know how it really worked.

Read the last sentence.

It should not present any challenge.
It is mostly the newest products that are ACTIVATED
and 'locked' to the original hardware it was installed on.

Thanks again for the info. I feel happier.

If your running WinNT, 2000 or XP, you should be able to go to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\VERSION\VERSION#\ADLM
There should be a html file. When you open that it will give you the activation code. If I remember right about the older versions, this number wasn't tied to anything except the serial number. Copy that file somewhere and when you reinstall AutoCAD you can type in the code to activate it.
