I want to run a lisp program to set the plot style table to AIA.STB. I need to do this because the rest of the lisp routine creates specific layers with line weight and plot style and this can only be done if the correct plotstyle table is current.
Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Perhaps an answer lies in
"Reference tab : Overview of Plot Styles [AutoCAD User's Guide : AUG]"
There are links to each of the system variables described-listed below.
Go to AutoCAD help -- Command Reference -- System Variables -- C System Variables -- CPLOTSTYLE.
System Variables
CPLOTSTYLE
Controls the current plot style for new objects
DEFLPLSTYLE
Specifies the default plot style for new layers
DEFPLSTYLE
Specifies the default plot style for new objects
PSTYLEMODE
Indicates whether the current drawing is in a Color-Dependent or Named Plot Style mode
PSTYLEPOLICY
Controls whether an object's color property is associated with its plot style
