I am doing a project in LDD 2004 and have completed creating my proposed surface. Part of the proposed site plan contains an asphalt area, and an RCA road. The final grades for these areas are included in the proposed site. To determine volumes within the limits of the asphalt and RCA areas I have created two surfaces (asphalt and rca road), using boundaries at the limits of the asphalt or RCA, and using the breaklines from the proposed surface. I edited the asphalt and RCA surfaces to lower the grades, and save the edited surfaces as new surfaces. I defined a stratum using the existing surface and the asphalt sub surface, and tried to calculate the volume using the composite method. When the volume surface is created the original asphalt surface disappears from the Terrain Model Explorer. If I go to the file where the project is stored I can see the folder for the surface, but it does not display in the TME. The asphalt sub surface remains with all correct information. Any thoughts?

I know it was a while ago when you posted this but I just saw it. One of our drafters had this problem yesterday and, sorry to say, we really didn't have a great reason why. The only thing we got to work is this:

The surface would disappear right when we went to calculate the volumes just like yours. When you go to the calculate volumes command a dialog box would pop up saying that a grid surface already existing, do you want to overwrite? It shouldn't exist because we just created it but whatever, we kept hitting yes to overwrite and that's when the surface would disappear. Our only solution so far is to just hit "no" and everything works fine. Hope that helps.
