I like the fence option in Trim and Extend.

Eg: to trim many lines between 2 paralell lines:

1) activate Trim, enter
2) select the paralell lines (extents), enter
3) type "f", enter
4) select two points between the paralell lines*, enter.

*AutoCad shows a dotted line, any lines it touches are trimmed the your selected extents.

I told one of our "experts" here about it a couple of years ago after hearing "Click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click,"Damn" click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, "Tut", click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, and so on. He was glad of it that day!
It can be a handy way of deadheading lines.
Check out fence in help.

You would not believe how many times I would have loved to have this in my bag of tricks, but either was too lazy to look it up, or was too busy to find it. (go figure) A great big thank you!

Another one for trim (and extend)

If you enter the Trim command, and instead of selecting a line to trim to, you simply hit Enter, all lines in the view become trim planes. It would go something like:

Command: Trim <enter>
Current settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=Extend
Select cutting edges ...
Select objects: <enter>
Select object to trim or shift-select to extend or [Project/Edge/Undo]: <click to trim, or enter F for Fence>

The Shift key also works to change from Extend to Trim the same way as described above, just instead of starting in the Trim command, you start in the Extend command. Then when you hold the Shift key down, you are Trimming...

I use the fence line trim quite often, the only problem i have with it is that if all of the lines aren't on the screen it won't trim them so i have to trim a few then pan over and trim the rest.
Thanks,
Tommy

You also have to take care that if you have a linetype that is not continuous, that your fence line doesn't go through the opening in the line, but actually crosses the line - it seems like AutoCAD doesn't recognize the line if you go through the gap - but I do love the fence option
