Survey crew went out and shot the bottom of and existing ditch that needs to be re-graded. Can someone explain how to create a simple profile of the ditch bottom in civil 3d. I have the points imported, drew a 3d polyline thri the points. I can get it to draw a quick profile, but that disappears when the dwg is saved.

I need a profile I can use to redesign the ditch bottom.

thanks.

Create an alignment and then create a profile. From that create an assembly with the design that you want to hold for the ditch. Create a corridor and sections for your design.

I tried creating a surface from a point group of the single space shots, then an alignment of the ditch bottom elevations and then a profile. it worked, but there were gaps in the profile. places where no info was displayed.

even tried a feature line, no luck.

think i found the solution on youtube. if you use a 3d polyline to make a quick profile, then export the profile to a landXML file, and then import that file back into the dwg.

I will be trying this tomorrow.

If this is a common task, you might look into a 3rd party solution like this: http://www.quuxsoft.com/SincpacC3D_Help/SP_CreateAlignmentProfile.htm
