It does not produce the surface profile in the profile view. When I go to "create a profile from surface" command though it is showing as a third profile but the elevations are showing Min. = 0.000 and Max. = 0.000. So the superimpose command is not interpreting the existing surface.

yes, it can work for most any profile you have created in your drawing. If you are not familiar with the command flow: Profile -> Create Superimposed Profile, select source profile (not profile view), select destination profile view. In the Superimpose Profile Options Dialog box select your station range, click okay and there should be two profiles in your destination profile view, one that follows the alignment of the Destination profile view and one that is superimposed from the source profile you chose at the beginning of the command.
