View Full Version : Why have the Inventor Series
I'm curious as to what benefit it is to buy the Inventor Series.
I mean, what does Mechanical Desktop do for you when you have
Inventor. I can understand having AutoCAD bundled in for 2d drafting.
Just curious.

When we got into Inventor last year we only had two options - either Inventor Pro 9 or Inventor Series 9. We could not purchase without AutoCAD (which we already had). Personally I never use Mechanical Desktop & I dont think the interface between AutoCAD and Inventor is that great but still do occasionally use AutoCAD for 2D drawings and for importing DXF's from other programs such as Autopipe which Inventor can't handle.

I've found the MDT useful for creating freeform surfaces. It can also be useful for the importing and editing of igs surface files, prior to using them in Inventor.
