View Full Version : LT 2000 / Radial Resolution?

Crew,

I noticed my circles & other radius drawings are made up of a series of squarish lines...as opposed to nice, clean circular forms. This made me wonder...can the default resolution be set higher in AutoCAD LT 2000? Can the radius res be set higher...or is there another way to correct this?

Thanks,

Hi

Check out the following Technical Documents on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -

ID: TS40633 - WHIPARC system variable explained (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?id=2871953&linkID=2475323&siteID=123112)

ID: TS32026 - Controlling the smoothness of arcs, circles, and ellipses (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?id=2870325&linkID=2475323&siteID=123112)

Have a good one, Mike

As Mike points out, the whiparc and viewres variables are the ones you want to look into. Whiparc is saved in the registry, however, viewres is saved in each drawing. You may want to look into changing that variable in your template drawing so it is changed in all drawings created from that template.

Mike & Brenda,

Wow...thank you both very much (&; as you can see...as a neophyte, I need help.)

Let me ask you one more question (now that I have your ear)...if you don't mind:

I'm trying to draw different door styles for our community architectural standards. The design criteria for the glass panels is that they can be formed with both linear & radial lines. So...I'm working on the first style...which is a half panel with an arched top. I have the three linear lines...the horizontal base & the two vertical sides (making up the base the rectangle); & now need to add a half circle at the top...which will connect to the top ends of those vertical side lines.

I engaged OSNAP & ORTHO...hit the Arc Button; & connected the left side of the arc to the top end of the left vertical line (by specifying the start point of the Arc.) Then I move my cursor over to the right to where OSNAP aligns with the top end of the vertical line on the right...left click the mouse to make the arc; & adjust it to the shape I want.

But...no matter what I then do with the mouse...right click, left click, double click...doesn't matter...the arc disappears; & the program tells me that the end point is invalid.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

mark4man

Hmmm, always go counter-clockwise when creating an arc. AutoCAD doesn't seem to like clockwise motion. Also, don't have Ortho on. Acad has a difficult time with ortho when creating arcs.

Celie,

Thanks.

Someone told me that "Fillet" also works for this; & it does. It works perfectly...in that, the radius equals half the lateral distance between the two vertical lines (i.e., it makes a perfect half circle.)

Thought I'd pass that on.

Thanks again,
