Could someone give me a recomendation for what graphics card I should use for AutoCAD 2005? We are trying to figure out what we should by for a card when we upgrade our machines so we get the best performance.

Thanks.

Hi

Obviously cost is a very big factor here.... a good place to get a few ideas is -

Nvidia Quadro FX 3400 is what Im running........If you are buying new PCs, they should come with something sufficient enough. We order from Dell here at my office and most PCs come with a decent enough video card as standard.

As for installing new video cards, I tried that once, and will never do that again........I noticed barely any performance upgrade, if any at all :-(

Hello -

I run a Radeon 9550 256mb card at home - seems to work great for animations, assemblies, and operating in shaded mode. I go with the higher RAM versions to assure the best possibly performance with drawings and models (since they have such huge vertex counts). It is a cheaper desktop model, but when I bought my 64 bit board, I didn't realize I should get the model with PCI Express slots. Not sure how much slower it is than high end cards.

I hear the new ATI Fire GL kicks major butt - anyone have any experience with it? Also, seems that I read a poll somewhere that showed most CAD operators using NVIDIA GeForce / GeForce 2 cards. I'm partial to ATI, but willing to change. Some comparisons on these two would be great if anyone could.
