When I create a viewport in a layout, I am using acad 2005, and I want to modify it using grips, I select the grip and try to stretch it but nothing happens. If I initiate the strech command and select the point then I can modify the viewport
Anybody have any ideas?

Have you tried turning OSNAP off while grip editing? Just a thought.

Here is an example dwg file, but I tried it with another machiine and I was able to edit the box using grips. On my machine I can't edit the viewport using grips.
Somebody help me, I am going insane

Yes, my osnaps are on but thats not the problem and the vp is not on a locked layer.
After searching on the autocad discussion groups, there were a lot of other people having the same problem and I didn't see a fix. The real problem is the grips are not activating when selceting a vp, but they work when I use grips to edit a pline or a block grips work.
When a grip is activated it turns a different color (usually red), but when I try it to the viewport the grip does not activate.

I have just seen this on a co-worker's computer. Viewports made with the mv command cannot grip stretch or stretch by the stretch command. The viewport size can be manipulated by entering values in the properties palette. Opening the file on another computer returns the ability to stretch, but it's disabled on one particular machine. The other grip functions appear to work fine (rotate, scale, etc.)
Does anyone have any more insight to add to this mystery?

I was having a similar problem just the other day, make sure your "OSNAPCOORD" is set to 2.

Thanks, but this bug does not allow any stretching at all, regardless of OSNAPCOORD value.

Your veiwport could be locked as well...if you select your viewport and then right click on it you will see the lock/unlock viewport options.

That only affects zoom and pan within the vport. :-(

Viewport is not locked (wouldn't matter anyway)
Viewport layer is on, unlocked, not frozen
I can perform other grip commands (rotate, scale, move) on the viewport
I can convert closed polylines to a viewport and grip stretch them no problem
I can open the file on another computer and edit the viewport
I can edit the viewport size with the properties palette, but not stretch or grips

Weird situation so strange thought follows - was/were the vport(s) made with the FIT option of MView?

No, using pick like any other time. The odd thing is the anomaly is restricted to one computer; all other machines allow grip stretching of the viewport.

I've had that problem before sometimes model space gets turned on in the layout tab and that can throw of the Viewport resizing.

Can you make a new one that works properly?

Not by the mv command.
