I started using families to create Wrought picket fences, but recently stumbled on tto the idea of using railings to create them, and found it much faster to create and manipulate them.
Simply create a a balustrade the desired picket shape, load it into a project and use it just as you would when creating a railing, set top and bottom offsets so that the 'picket' extends the desired distance above and below the rails and .... Revit draws picket fences. (Which calls for a way of overriding a family instances Category).
