Is there any way to access the layer snapshot function without opening the layer manager? I'd like to set up either some menu macros or a lisp routine to create a snapshot from the current layer settings or restore a saved snapshot. Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but your referenced thread uses saved “Layer States” rather than snapshots. The functional difference as far as I can see is that when you set up a layer state in a drawing with xrefs, the layers are no longer recognized as the same when the xref is reloaded. Layer snapshots seem to retain their settings even after reloading the xref. In addition, the “model space view” command in ADT5 saves snapshots with the view, not layer states. The problem is that using the layer manager to set up and maintain snapshots is really slow. I remember back in Acad 14, Softdesk S8 had a menu macro to set up layer snapshots and restore them with a mouse click.

if you set VISRETAIN System Variable to 1 saved “Layer States” will be saved the state of xref. layers. This system variable is save in the drawing so need to be set in each drawing.

Thanks, you're right. It was set to 0 in the test drawing I was working on. I still need to set up snapshots to use with the ADT model space views. Is there a way to do this without opening layer manager?
