We use Land Desktop 2005. I have 2 users when using the Autodesk Land Enabled Map 2005 option. They don't use LDD much to know if it happens in that too. After a while when using the grips all of a sudden the grips stop displaying. Once this starts they can pick an object onces and get the grips after that the grips for that object does not show up. You can pick another object and the grips work once. If we close the drawing and reopen it. The problem is fixed for a short time in only that drawing. Any other drawing that has the problem still has the problem until you close and reopen it. Has anyone seen this before or now of a fix for it without having to exit the drawing.

I have experienced the same thing in both Land Enabled and Land Desktop (2005). Some of the grips may disappear, but there is usual grip or two on each item showing. if you click were the grip should be, it shows up as a selected grip and it is business as usual. I had just assumed that it was my zoom factor (working with a 2000+ acre site) when it happened. Clicking where the invisible grip should be gets annoying after awhile. A fix or work around would be nice.

Have you tried doing a regenall? I think it may be related to the screen refreshing the content. I know in previoous releases, when you selected an object, and then zoomed, the grips did not resize, maybe ADESk is trying to fix this and by doing so, introduced this bug?!?!

Yes I have tried regenall, regen, tried switching to paperspace I've even tried reloading my default acad profile and nothing brings it back except to reopen the file. I plan to try what the first reply had to see if the grip is actually there, but he person isn't here right now to have the problem happen. I don't think it will work because the object actually is not highlighting as though you picked it. I can't double click on the object either to edit or get properties on the object. So thinking about it i's like you can not select the object unless you are in a command.

This problem can occur because the GRIPS variable is not enabled. The GRIPS variable controls whether grip boxes are displayed when objects or geometry is selected.

To enable the GRIPS variable:

Type grips on the command line and press ENTER.

Enter 1 as the value.

Press ENTER.

If grips still do not display after you enable the GRIPS variable, there might be a problem with either the video card or video driver.

I don't know if you have solved this yet, but just some illumination from an older version.

Using LDDT2 and Map I have found that normally you can select an object and then Shift + Click to deselect it.

But, if you initialize Map by going to the Map > Options menu (unless your IT set this to load on startup) , It enables Shift + Left Click to select an image. This causes the previous Shift + Click from deselecting objects.

I found that if I go to APPLOAD and unload the map app. (took a few tries to find the right one) then my previous functionality comes back.

I mention this because it sounds similar to what you described. Possibly some feature in Map gets loaded during the course of using a drawing and is causing the GRIPS to disappear.

Thomas-p, go into your "options" (preferences), go to the selection tab and make sure the "Use Shift to add selection" check box is UNchecked. Also, make sure your "Enable Grips" check box is checked (this is also what Bruce was explaining earlier). You might (or not) want to check the "Enable grips within blocks" checkbox. This will give you a little more functionality when working with points and other blocks.

TCoomer, this also sounds like what you were trying to describe, but it seems like you may have been going at it through the backdoor, I haven't tried it that way.

Good luck to you all!

That's not the issue. It's set that way already. You could be working for several hours just fine. All of a sudden it messes up. Once it messes up you can exit file (not acad) open file and it's back to normal. He has been working fine all day today with out the problem yet. The other thing is once it happens it happens to all open files. Each will have to be reopened. Weird.

Check the card and driver.

thanks to all of you who have had trouble with grips. I have been using 2005 for almost a year when all of sudden Grips started disappearing. Did a search here and thought the grips variable might be the answer. Several different occasions I have had commands typed in at command line that would not work. On most occasions this turned out to be a variable which had mysteriously changed. Changing the grips variable back to one worked for me.

One thing it could be when working with multiple files open in the same session. Not completing a command sequence before switching files and you do that enough and ACAD will lose track of where it was in the page files. Another thing I have seen it do is arbitrarily dump certain saved settings when it pages out. I have a Gig of ram and it is 85% dedicated to cad, but it still happens when I go through multiple files and forget to do a full save to clear the buffer so to speak. When it hits the point that it needs to page out ( which isn't too often) that's when I will lose a setting or two. Grips, noun-verb settings etc....
