View Full Version : Bug Test - Families and arrays... (CONFIRMED)

I've been attempting to array a nested family and then use a parameter to adjust the array value. Do it in Revit 6.0 and it kills Revit. Just did the exact same thing in 5.1 and no problem.

Anybody else able to reproduce this....?

Simple test, don't even attempt a nested one...just open a generic family template, create a solid cylinder, array it, then attempt to create a parameter...by selecting the array, Edit Label, add parameter... Crash bang burn...

oops, well that worked just fine - now I'll try with a nested family...

Wesley...you are using 6.0 when you try? Well if it's working for you that's not fair, cause it crashes Revit everytime. I'll have to try it on another PC.

Steps to re-create as I did it, open new family, generic model template, create any model object (I did a solid extruded and then a model line in a separate attempt), then array, select a member of the array and hover over the array line indications, right click EDIT LABEL, choose ADD parameter, call it count or counter (tried different names), leave type checked or check instance (tried both too) as soon as I click OK...Revit crashes. Also did it with the Specialty family...all using imperial content.

(Works for me)
rel 6.0
metric templates
added a parameter
OK

OOPS I just tried to rename the parameter to "count" and the program crashes ...

It seems when adding a parameter from the toolbar it works for me, but if I add a parameter from the right click menu the program crashes...

Notice that after adding a parameter using the Family Types button on the Design Bar your new parameter isn't in the list when you right click, edit label?

Steve,

I recreated what you described above, using the imperial generic template, and did not crash.

Steve,

Did you use the "integer" type of parameter?
Because on my machine i can add a "integer parameter in the Family Types Dialog. If I right click on the array dimension it is available to me but if I select it the program crashes.

All,

This issues has been reported and the problem identified here with the Revit team.

Fortunately, a very simple workaround to the problem is to not use the right mouse button when attempting to label the array dimension. Rather, label the dimension using the toolbar.

Thanks for the confirmation and workaround Steve!

Thanks...and for those who might wonder where the heck the "toolbar" option is after clicking on an array member like I did at first. You have to click on some part of the array line that shows up with the array value, it should highlight, then the "OPTION" bar will show the add parameter option.
