Hello, first time using AutoCAD Map 2006 and first time on this forum.
I have an AutoCAD drawing that is linked to database. The drawing contains Polylines which represent pipelines and are linked to a database containing attribute info of the pipeline (year installed, product conveyed, material...etc..) What I want to be able to do is to make a line in my drawing (eg. a proposed new pipeline route) and have the program select the database records for each pipe that is crossed by the new route. Anybody have any ideas as to how I should approach this problem?
Thanks

How do you need this information shown?

Well, I guess it doesn't really matter. I was thinking I would be able to draw a line and have the records for each line that it crosses highlighted or selected and shown in a table format. So instead of having a table that shows all the records it would only show the ones that are crossed by the line that I drew. I hope I am clear enough, if not let me know and I'll try and explain it better

Hi! I don't have an answer to your problem, but hope that you have some ideas for mine...
I'm new to the pipeline industry and I recently discovered that our CAD centerlines were inaccurately drawn by the technician who preveiously held my position. We're moving to a GIS, and correct centerlines are necessary before we proceed. From the original Alignment Sheets, I have calculated the bearings and slope distances between PIs. How do I derive horizontal distances in order to redraw the centerlines? Do you have any suggestions, or can you point me in the right direction? Thanks for your consideration, Keri

The easy way is, Open the data table to edit, click on the Spacial Filter Icon (looks like a funnel). When it asks to select objects enter F (for Fence option) then trace over your polyline. Press enter when done and only the records that cross the polyline will be selected. You can use the file menu in the data view to print, copy or what ever those selected records.
