Can I place a beam, say with a normal orientation, and then rotate it so it placed along the weak axis?

Yes, in the properties look under Structural category>Angle, if you change to 90 degrees you get a beam rotate as shown in the jpeg. Hope this helps.

Sorry to dig up such an old topic but can you place a beam rotated as opposed to do it after placing it?

Unfortunately I don't think you can.

If you made you own rotational parameter you "might" be able to, but the ootb ones will only alow justification to be set. Even offset cannot be done until after placement.

Thanks. that is what i suspected. I may have to create another family with the members rotated within the family and see if that works.
