Revit Shortcut Highway is an application that allows one to manipulate keyboard shortcuts for AutoDesk Revit 5.1 commands.
Prior to the release of this application, the only means available to perform the operation of manipulating command shortcuts was by manually editing the Keyboardshortcuts.txt file (residing in the AutoDesk Revit 5.1 installation folder) via a text editor.

See below for latest working version.

Seems like an interesting idea but the zip file appears to be corrupt.

Previous version yielded a CRC error upon extraction.
This version has a compression ratio of 0%.
Will perform extraction and post results thereof.

The latest version now works.
It appears as though setting a compression setting of "None" was the key.

Got it loaded and working. Looks pretty nice! I can see myself using this. Will it automatically update the menu names for 6.0 or will that require a recode?

I keep downloading the second file and installing it but it will not run. I get the error

"Component Msxonctl.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

Shaun,

When I try to start the program, I get "Runtime error '429' ActiveX componet can't create object."

The application employs two standard Microsoft ActiveX controls: ComDlg32.ocx and MsComCtl.ocx which I have included with this message as an attachment which contains the executable that will install these controls. Alternatively, these ActiveX controls are available for download at :
http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/comdlg32.cab
http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/mscomctl.cab
If you intend to download these controls from the Microsoft site, you will have to register them manually using regsvr32.exe (located in your ...\system32 folder).

I'm glad you like it. About ver 6.0, you guessed correctly. It will require a recode.

A cool feature is the ability to cut and paste shortcuts posted on Zoog directly into the editor.

For example here are Henry D's quick 3D orientation shortcuts

http://www.zoogdesign.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=599&highlight=keyboard+shortcuts

"VN" menu:"view-Orient-North"
"VS" menu:"view-Orient-South"
"VE" menu:"view-Orient-East"
"VW" menu:"view-Orient-West"

Simply select and copy the above (Ctrl-C), then paste (Ctrl-V) into the Revit Shortcut Editor.

Its great to see a dealer adding value to Revit. Checked out your company web site, are you planning localised Revit Content, or other tools. They might well be of interest to the rest of the world.

Hi Rhys

Affirmative. As a business we are going Revit in a big way - our website is busy undergoing major overhauling to reflect this.

On the product front we are developing "Revit Content Manager" as well as creating local content - mainly doors and windows - eg. Rutherfords, Wispeco, Swartland, Van Acht and others.

Pity about the lack of an API in Revit. I really hope we see something soon! But hey that's another thread...

To all of you that have not downloaded and used the keyboard editor, DO IT. The hour or so that it will take to set up your shortcuts will pay back in volumes!

I just merged our AutoCAD standards and Revit standards into a master keyboardshortcut.txt in a matter of about an hour. Exported and formatted for a handout and done.

I have attached as an example.

Many thanks to Merek -

If the WATG keyboard shortcuts become a World Standard - it will at least make training newly recruited WATG Revit Staff just that bit quicker tho

Marek,

When I try to run the program I get a runtime 429 error. I installed the osx stuff you posted with the 5.1 release last December, & still get the error.

Any thoughts??

Andrew I suggest you download the above version of Revit Shortcut Highway. Its more current, sorts out the ocx problem and works for both 5.1 and 6.0

If there's anyone out there prepared to host Revit Shortcut Highway, please email me: marekb at cadplan dot co dot za

Zoogers - I would appreciate any feedback, bug reports, suggestions etc

Marek, Shaun and Shaun,

Excellent application guys, very nice. I particularly like the duplicate filter option. Makes cleaning up a conflict very easy. Interface is very intuitive, I read the instructions afterward to test it of course.

I assume that the accuracy of the commands available is something you have to manually assemble in the application? Not able to extract it since there is no API? If so, that's your achilles heel then? Manually updating the command selections at each build/release?

Thanks for making this available to us.

Andrew, please email: shaunkapot at cadplan dot co dot za for direct technical assistance. Shaun has a few ideas he wants you to try.

Steve you're right. No API = manual updating. Fortuneately it doesn't take long. For example there were only 24 new menu commands added in 6.0

Of course, we'd love an API - punt punt :D

I have both 5.1 and 6.0 on my computer. I notice that using the shortcut highway the shortcuts are getting updated for 5.1, but not for 6.0. I have all my shortcuts as I want them in the 5.1 file, and I would like to transfer them into the 6.0 file but also retain the full list of shortcuts that 6.0 has. How can I direct the shortcut highway to update a specific version? Thanks.

Hi Henry D. Upon activating the application - it will attempt to load both 6.0 and 5.1 Keyboardshortcuts.txt by searching the "Program Files" folder for the installed Revit software. If both are found you will be presented with the option of loading both or only one of the 6.0 or 5.1 files. Your chosen setting may be subsequently altered via the "Revit Version..." command on the "File" menu.

Assuming you chose to load both files, two tabs will appear - both titled "Keyboardshortcuts.txt". Their tooltips will display their full path , implying their version (5.1 or 6.0).

Now, in order to update a particular shortcut file : activate it's tab and select "Save" on the "File" menu. "Save" will only update the file displayed in the currently activated tab. We are however planning on adding a "Save All" command to the "File" menu which will update all of the files simultaneously.

To transfer shorcuts from one file to another - Firstly, select and copy all of the shortcuts in the "Active" tab in the bottom right hand pane of the file you wish to transfer from (5.1) . Secondly, activate the tab you wish to have the shortcuts transferred to (6.0). Then proceed to paste (via the "Paste" command on the "Edit" menu). You will then be presented with a list of the new shortcuts you copied earlier, along with the options to either "Preserve Existing Shortcuts" or "Replace Existing Shortcuts". By selecting "Preserve Existing Shortcuts" the shortcuts you have copied will be added as alternates to the current file, thereby retaining the full original list (that 6.0 has).

Henry D, I hope my reply resolves your questions. If you require any further assistance - you may e-mail me at "shaunkapot 'AT' cadplan 'DOT' co 'DOT' za".

Hi there hadens I had a look at the application and it works with 8.1 just fine. You might need to tell the programme where the shortcuts are located but this is easily found under (look at JPG's). Just follow the link in the this qoute.

The menu structure changed slighty between 8.0 and 8.1 regarding shared positioning and a couple other subtleties I can't put my finger on at them moment. Because of this, Shortcut highway won't handle these differences properly. So as long as you don't happen to try to assign a shortcut to one of these changed commands you should be find. Just keep it in mind.
