Is anyone here using Samsung monitors?
There's a great deal on 19" LCD's and I think I am going to buy 2.
it's a Samsung 192N/193S 19" LCD
- .297mm dot pitch
- 1280 x 1024 max. resolution
- 700:1 contrast ratio
- 3 year warranty
I believe it's a Syncmaster. it has the same model number!
any help would be appreciated!

I have a 17" Samsung SyncMaster 770TFT and a 19" ViewSonic VG191.
I would say they both have the same quality and I would recommend either of them. How much are they asking?

Don't go by spec alone try to see before you buy
I was really torn between the looks of the LCD and the performance of the CRT
Take your laptop & try revit on it ~
Take a look at Viewsonic range ~ very high spec (normally better than Samsung) I was sorely tempted by the 18 Viewsonic spec but when I saw a 19 one locally & tested it I decided a CRT was better for me ~
Just ordered IIyama 454 19" 0.24 U2 tube top of range in 19" £250 delivered
3 year swap out warranty etc
Samsung are good so I believe ~ what I've seen is ok Viewsonic probably have better colour
but still not good enough for me ~ if all LCD 19" had better dot pitch I'd be happier and would have bought one.
The Sony is still the best I've seen but not tried it with Revit

they are asking $779.00 CND
it's the cheapest for 19"
they sell 18" for more.
they are regularly $900. each.
I have seen them and look good. The case borders the screen with only a 1/2" surround, so when I put the 2 monitors together, the border will be minimal.
I would look at resolution and refresh rate mhz. Bur Roger is right , try before you buy. I though have always prefered LCD's from the begining.
My desktop is a 17inch Belina cost £1200 a few years ago, similar now a fraction of that. Deskspace is for me the most impotant thing, and I just feel most 15inch lcd's feel like a 17inch crt. Just my predujice.
Most of my work is on a sony laptop with a 16in screen. TFT's all the way but not the cheapest.
I still want 2 X19inch sony LCD's when the fees come in. --Close Roger!!

You can buy a Viewsonic 21" G810 for $450 in the USA if you shop around carefully...that's only $560ish Canadian? I'd go for a 21 way before a 18/19... FWIW

Oops, my bad, I just looked at the quote again to refresh my memory:
$529.00 1 Dell 1901FP: 19 in. Ultrasharp Digital Flat Panel Disp
And, of course, I didn't pay for it...that's what bosses are for, right?

Steve,
I would go 21" if it were only a few hundred dollars difference, however 21" LCDs around here jump to $1700 - 2000 a piece CND!
The 18" viewsonic is $800-900.
So I think I'd do good getting the 2- 19" Samsungs for $779 a piece!

Its even worse on this side of the pond.
19" Samsung = $US 1040
21" Samsung = $US 3000
24" Samsung = $US 4000
40" Samsung = $US 8470
But hey, 40" has to be the way ... right ?

Seems to me that if you can save the $250 per for the Dells, they should be worth a look, no?

Greg, I think the $779 is Canadian Dollars which at a $1.31 exchange rate makes it $595 US, so the Samsung is more like $65 more than the Dell - but still the Dell sounds like a great buy.

thanks guys!
I checked the Canadian Dell website and the only have 3 monitor choices?
the prices are crazy!
I then checked the US Dell site (since I Live 20 minutes from the US/Canada border @ Detroit-Windsor) but the US prices are close to the Canadian prices without the exchange!
So I am probably better off with the Samsung.
I will check a few more US sites just in case.

I seem to remember reading that some of the Dell Monitors are made by Sony ~ maybe worth checking spec notes

I just visited a few of the US big box sites.
Both Best Buy and Circuit City have a Samsung 21.3" for $1199.99
which in Canadian dollars brings me to about $1600-1700 CND each plus sneak it across the border without duty.......buy 2 ........ no not worth it.
I think I'll stick with the 2 19" Samsungs for a grand total of $1791.70 taxes incl. It's only for a couple of years until the 64 bit systems fly and the price of LCDs are even lower. Then we'll talk!! 8)

Dell monitors have long been Sony's...Trinitrons for the CRTs. I am not sure what the fp models are, but the ones I bought were very nice...I especially like the 19". I did buy it with the computers and through the refurbished department, though, so that could explain the lower price. The refurbished guys at Dell are able to give discounts up to 50% on peripherals stuff...anything but the computers themselves.

Nice bits of equipment, particularly the Iilyama ones but you have to go up to 21" to get 1600 x 1200 and I don't think I could go to a lesser resolution now.
yes arn't they the 21inch Iiyama at £900 ish looks veerry tempting

I'VE GOT THEM!!!!!
plus when I got there they were clearing them out so I got an extra $50 off each monitor. My friend even bought one.
This is so cool! I just upgraded to dual Xeon and 2 Gig of Ram, so I'm just beaming. Not to mention Revit 6.0 is soooo much faster. :D
It all makes work so fun again!!!!
Roger's Iiyama Supliers
Well they weren't that helpfull, phoned to order 2 but they are unable to let me see even one and didn't know any wherere I could. I suppose the best that could be said was that they weren't high pressure sales motivated :(

They had 2 in stock but theys had problems box opening!! They didn't have the blackone. After a little more research I've opted for 21inch
Viewsonic again not available till mid feb BUT price was £1000 incl. vat quite a bit cheaper. From Evesham www.evesham.com

21" ?? 2of them?? £1000 each ??? and you want to conserve desk space?? so how far away is your chair from the desk then?? maybe better to buy new spectacles.
