View Full Version : What's happening with layers when dropping views with the SSM?

When dropping view strange things happen with layers. I don't know if it's something we're doing or it's something that is supposed to occur when dropping. Layers are frozen in views unexpectedly. Is there an outline or step by step of what happens exactly when you place a view. I do see a layer made with the drawing or views name and the xref being placed on that layer. I also see where it will freeze all of the sheets layers in that view and layers being controlled by the xref ? I think? I wonder if my layer problems are because when placing a view all of these things that are supposed to happen are not completing or failing.

Hi

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD 2006 General (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=197) Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

Just something to check:

Switch to paper space, then open your Layer Manager. Now check to see if your layers are set to "freeze in new" (it's the last column to the right before description). If this is set then any new viewport you create will have these layers frozen automatically. I have attached a screen shot to better show what I'm talking about.

When you create the view initially, did you tell it to remember layer settings? This was a new addition to the view command in 2005.

yes i need to check both of those replys?

they are correct for both cases. if these were to have changed someone or something has changed them

If you told the view to save layer states, I would expect layers to get frozen on you. Layers that didn't exist at the time of the view's creation would be frozen because the view didn't know about them. Is that the behavior you are seeing?

I understand what you are saying about the layer states when you create the view. I have tested this out with save and delete layer states and i cannot reproduce when certian layers just decide to freeze in a view that was just placed with the ssm.

a few things we're finding on the road to figure this out.

when you close the drawing u r having problems with and open another and place the same view the layers will be correct. nothing frozen. so it has to do with something in the
recieving drawing. something is triggering the layers to be frozen in that view.
