This is only recommended for a "one off" where you dont want to go through the process of creating a new family for a one off situation.
If you have a wall based family in your model, and you need to move away from or into the wall, you can do it if you create an in place family, and the family you want to move about is placed in here as a component. Finish the family, then you move to wherever you want.
