cannot lauch or attach to microsoft excel

I’m having some sort of conflict with table driven parts in mechanical desktop6, I’m not sure when or how this conflict started but when I go to update a part linked to a excel document, autocad gives me a error message “cannot launch or attach to Microsoft excel”. Could someone please tell me how to resolve this conflict? Is it a service pack thing? Is it a excel problem? Is it a setting that got changed somehow?
