linking project files in Revit Building

I would like to know how offices have implemented Revit with different disciplines in the same office. Our office has most disciplines and have been told the best way is to treat each discipline as a separate entity. IE, structural has their own project that is linked to the architectural project.... and so on. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
