I have a topo map in Autodesk 2004. The maps have countours and I would like to produce a 3D model using the coutours. However the lines are proxylines and I need to convert them to polylines. What would be the best way to formulate this 3D model from the topographical map?

Which version or flavor of AutoCAD are you using. This may be better suited in the GIS forums, since you are trying to create a model of the contours.

First off - if they are proxy objects you will want the appropriate "object enabler" for the product that created the original file.

thanks for your reply. i am currently running autocad 2004. My main concern is converting to polylines, then I could possibly generate the contours in Arcview or ArcGIS. I am not aware of the original program that was used.

How do I go about doing that. Is it something that can be downloaded, or do I should I check with the source of the map. Thanks.

It is usually something you can download, but you may want to ask the source of the map the type of software that it was created in. This might get you going in the right direction.

The source may be able to convert them to polylines for you as well.
