View Full Version : Server side - new 8.1 backup files and snapshot bloat

This is difficult to explain - here goes:

It's clear that from Revit 8 to 8.1 the storage mechanism has changed on workset enabled projects. It appears that both client and server (central location) locations have consolidated the backup directories (around 500 of them) into rws, dat and bak files. I'm interested because I'm assisting our IT department in tracing down crippling issue with our backup system.

We are a large organization (~200) and have managed storage EMC SAN's that use byte level change detection to generate "snapshots" twice a day. Recently these snapshots have been inflating to enormous size. This happens to coincide with my roll-out of several new large Revit 8.1 projects.
My question is: Does Revit destroy and recreate server files on every users STC or not? This is transparent to the end user, but computer systems are sensitive to the difference.
