I have tried to change the viewports of an object by using the UCS command, but changing the location of the UCS doesn't change the the views? Please help, I'm sick of hitting my head against this wall.

Hi

Look at system variables UCSFollow / UCSVP.

Commands like...

_.Plan
_.DDVPoint
_.3DOrbit
_DView
_.MVSetUp
etc

Have a good one, Mike

Hi Jim.
What are you trying to do?
Objects don't have viewports but viewports are objects.
Do you have both the 3Dview and UCS toolbars visible?

Hey John;

The following attachments are examples of what I am trying to do.

Drawing 29 is the old design. Drawing 32 is the new design. Both are in AutoCAD 2006.

What I need is the SE views to match. ie the GREEN rear cover and the RED base in Drawing 29 are in the correct orientation in Model Space. I need the Green rear cover and RED base with BLUE power bracket in Drawing 32 to be in the same orientation.

Thanks

Hi Jim,
I'll take a look this evening (4-5 hours from now) unless someone else takes a look first.

The assembly is standing on it's back.

Go to the Right View.

Rotate everything by 90 degrees clockwise.

SW Isometric view should work fine

Thanks guys;

Aled Taylors' reply is giving me different views, but still not the correct SE Isometric that I need.

Okay Drawing 33 has the SE view I need to continue on with the assembly.

Question: Can I get the same results with the UCS commands?

John I do have the USC, USC II, and Viewport Toolbars open. I'm not sure what you mean by 3DVIEW Toolbar.

Hi Jim.
Sorry, I should just have called it "View".

Either set UCS's and use the _.Rotate command OR use the _.Rotate3D command to correctly orientate your Model in "Drawing32"; then set View to "SE Isometric" (please refer to attached drawing file).

Thanks John and Mike.

Mike I'll look it over, but I think I'm mentally missing something in the UCS understanding. I'm using Mastering AutoCAD 2005 and the online help, but something isn't clicking upstairs.

If you don't use the _.Rotate3D command, you will need to set appropriate UCS(s) and use the regular _.Rotate command to correctly orientate your Model in "Drawing32".

Look at the View toolbar.
The top (or leftmost) six icons give you the six orthographic views.
Picking one of these not only gives a view in that direction, it also sets the current UCS so that the view you see is a plan view. i.e. Picking "Top" gives you a top down view and sets
the current UCS to "Top" which (simplified) is the same as "World".
The other four buttons select the four top-down oblique views (there are no buttons for the four bottom up oblique views) but make no change to the current UCS.

Looking at drawing 29 from various angles I see parts all over the place.
Is this due to my graphics card or is the model wrong?

It's the drawing not your graphics card. I wouldn't call it a model.

Drawing 29 is from the person that I have replaced. No one knows what he did. It seems to be 2D surfaces hanging in 3D.

I have no idea how I'm going to clean up his mess, but that's the job.

That's a relief.

Do you have any 2d detail drawings and/or dimensions or only drawing29?

I guess drawing29 is a (failed) attempt at isometric drawing.
