I am still working in AutoCAD 2000 and I am looking for a download, or software, or maybe a LISP routine, that I can type in size and type of steel and be able to drag and drop onto my drawings. I was able to do this years ago when I first started CAD at a previous employment and am not sure what I was using at the time. Is this something I will need to purchase? I will be upgrading to AutoCAD 2006 Autodesk in a couple weeks, will my new software have something like this built into it? Thanks,

Hi "rodwhsa" ( Sorry, I don't know your real name )

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the CAD Mgmt. General (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=119) forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

Most likely, it will not be built into the software if you are upgrading to just AutoCAD. In 2006, you can develop blocks, or reuse your current one, into a Dynamic Block. These blocks can be changed on the fly to a predetermined visibility setting (as well as many other settings).

I guess what I am saying is that you may need to purchase new software. Can you find out what your former employer uses?

Your best bet is to type "acad + blocks" into Google or whatever.
Here (http://www.ohyeahcad.com/catalog/index.php) is one source.

You won't be typing the size and have it appear but then - you won't be typing .....

The one that I use is called Al's Steel Mill, it is pretty well layed out and allows for all of the 2d elevation, top & profile views as well as creating the 3d shapes. It is great for all of the standard structural steel shapes. When it comes to cold rolled shapes and similiar items I use a couple of lisps that I wrote. The steel mill program is free and shouldn't be hard to find, but it you can't find it let me know and I'll send you a copy.

Thanks for the feedback! I found this link: http://www.ccadinc.com/steel_shapes.html It seems to be close to what I am looking for, not quite as slick as the program that I used to have but for $24.99 it will work.

I have attached a zip file containing the components. If you have any questions let me know, thanks.

I have attached a zip file containing the components. If you have any questions let me know, thanks.ryan, two things... #1, I don't see an attachment #2, if this is something you've had to pay for, then you should make sure you can legally post any components you want to share. AUGI doesn't allow the posting of proprietary material, and a link to the website would work just as well.
Thank you.
