Each time I start AutoCAD, a few things get reset. For example, my command line window is reset to 3 lines. I prefer to keep it at 4 lines.
The Properties window has the auto-hide function turn off. I prefer to keep it turned on. Why do these things get reset every time? and is there a way I can get it to keep the changes I make to the setup.
On the desktop icon I use, I checked the properties. No profile is set for the start up. The Target box just reads:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk Building Systems 2005\acad.exe"
The start in box reads:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk Building Systems 2005\UserDataCache\"
I'm using Building Systems 2005 if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried saving a profile with your preferences and calling it from the desktop shortcut?

maybe building systems automatically loads a specific profile, I believe that ADT used to to that, if you wanted a custom profile, you had to overwrite the default ADT profile.

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD General (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=120) forum to this one...
Thanks, Mike

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Steve. The following post in another thread you responded to gave me the solution:

RE: re: CAD profiles
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This may be the dumbest thing on the planet (well, maybe that's an exaggeration) but we have discovered quite by accident that desktop settings are more likely to be retained through each session (like retaining the location of the tool palettes, the size and setting for tools in each palette and more) if you make a "traditional" change before closing the session.
For example, I move the Tool Palettes to the left, change the transparency, and adjust the icon size. Then, perhaps I move a few toolbars and change the size of the command line and enable the Standards notification. If I close at this point and reopen, all is lost. If, however, I make an unrelated change to a toolbar as a last step, those settings will be retained. I do not use the 3D Orbit toolbar, so I just open and close that one.
I have no idea why this works and mostly, it makes me nuts that I cannot figure out what's happening. But at least we have not had problems with retained settings since we discovered this.
Hope this helps.
