Here is an easy way to copy text or linework,

Select the object(s) you want to copy, Hold ctrl and drag to the desired drop spot! BAM! copy objects with fewer buttons and keystrokes!

Happy Copying!

Andrew

works with AutoCAD 2005, i haven't tried the others, Thanks for stopping by!

A couple of notes:

1) This technique is not limited to text or lines.

2) You can copy object between drawings. Works like copy/paste.

3) Using the Ctrl key - you get a copy in the same drawing. Without the Ctrl key, you get a move.

4) When using this technique to copy objects to another open drawing, the Ctrl key is non-factor.

This is great except the basepoint is ignored.
I cannot place the copied object at any specific place on the screen.
Object snaps and cordinates do not apply. Wonder if AutoDesk will change
this feature?

This command is best used for copying text and leaders around or anything else that just needs an eyeball placement.

Thanks,
Andrew

If you right-click drag, then when you release the right mouse button over your destination, you have to option to "Paste to Orig Coordinates"

The right click drag works but just gives you options of "copy here, move here, or paste as block" with AutoCAD 2005.

Thanks,
Andrew

While dragging into same drawing or different drawing?

Maybe there is a difference between 2005 and 2006.

In 2006, you get copy here, move here, or paste as block when you drag/drop within the same drawing. But you get copy here, paste as block, paste to orig coordinates when you drag/ drop to a different drawing.

if you select the items, hold control and drag to your windows bar on the bottom of the screen, you can drop the items into another window of CAD. essentially copying to another drawing, the right click drag does work also, just drag onto the button for the other window and in a second the window will open so you can drop it into that drawing!

and you can drop to same coordinates in the other drawing when copying with the right click drag! With AutoCAD 2005.

Great job working through these easy copy commands!

Don't forget this technique also works when copying to other applications, such as Word, and Excel.

Thats awesome........now if only the pasted object did not have a border
when pasted into an office document.

Is that pasted as a bitmap or does it still maintain a link to the original cad file?
